CILICIA, Diocaesarea. Septimius Severus. 193-211 AD. Æ 34mm (24.03 g, 8h). Laureate head right; 2 c/ms: eagle in oval, thunderbolt in oval / Tyche standing left, holding rudder and cornucopiae. For coin: SNG Levante 670; SNG France 864; for c/m: Howgego 337 and 469. Near VF, green patina. ($200)
These countermarks, always found together on the coins of Diocaesarea, were certainly applied simultaneously, and represent cult objects of Zeus, the patron god of the city.
