HADRIAN. 117-138 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (10.53 g, 7h). Mint D. Struck after 128 AD. Bare head right, slight drapery on left shoulder; c/m: IMP (ligate) VES AV(AV ligate) G in incuse / Roma seated left on cuirass and shield, holding Victory and spear. For coin: RIC II 511; Metcalf, Cistophori, type 95, 360 (O5/R5); BMCRE 1076; RSC 347a; for c/m: Howgego 840 and Pangerl 101. VF, light scratch in reverse field. Overstruck on a cistophorus of Augustus which bore the IMP VES AV countermark. ($500)
