ROMAN. Bronze statuette of a Victory. 1st-2nd century AD. Height to tip of wings 75mm. A flying Victory, with her chiton billowing out around her, alighting atop a globe. She holds in her upraised right hand her attribute of a wreath, and with her left cradles a palm branch (now missing except for the stump). Her eyes are picked out in silver inlay, and her wings and dress are finely chased with exquisite realistic detail. Enhanced by a choice dark green patina highlighted by patches of brick-red. A marvelous example of Roman small scale statuary, in exceptional condition. ($2000)
