JUSTIN II. 565-578 AD. Æ Decanummium (21mm, 4.39 g, 6h). Constantinople mint. Emperor in military uniform standing facing, head right, holding spear and globe / Large I, cross above, stars at sides; CON. DOC I, 59; MIB 22,23 (Justin I); SB 362. VF, light green patina, darker at the highpoints.
As Seaby notes: "The reattribution of this type to Justin II, made by Grierson and Bellinger in the Dumbarton Oaks Catalogue, has not received universal acceptance." A note in the DOC (p. 217) warns that the unusual A crossbar (pointing down to right instead of up) "might (indicate) a different mint" On this coin two crossbars, one upward and one downward, form an X within the A.
