BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. Circa 475-450 BC. AR Hemiobol (0.56 g). Half Boiotian shield / Wheel of four spokes; pellet in each corner; all in incuse square. Unpublished in the standard references. Good VF, even grey tone. Struck in high relief. Extremely rare. ($500)

The flan of this coin was probably a flattened globule which was clipped and struck colder than is usual for the series (hence the flan cracks from the strike). It is not known if the four pellets on the reverse have a metrological significance, but the weight is practically double that of the following hemiobol.
