BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. 338-circa 300 BC. Lot of two Æ. Both coins: Boiotian shield / Ornamented trident upward, with curved crossbar; BOI
WTWN upward on left, dolphin upward on right, K to lower right. Varieties: (a) Æ 13mm (2.82 g). Distinctly concave reverse, legend in straight line. SNG Christomanos 801 (K not mentioned in text) // (b) Æ 13mm (2.29 g). Much flatter reverse, legend curving around the trident. SNG Leipzig 828. Both coins VF with attractive patinas. Two (2) coins in lot. Both Scarce. ($150)
Kroll p. 204, 592f lists another specimen but without any flan characteristics which would allow more precise identification. The similarity of (b)'s shield and fabric generally to lot 49(b) above and by extension to the anonymous AR in lots 64, 65, and 74 below, dates it to around 300. (a) is probably earlier by some decades and was arguably struck just after Khaironeia. An interesting pair which demonstrates that not only the same types but also the same symbols can be struck with decades separating them.
