BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. Circa 275-250 BC. AR Hemidrachm (2.33 g). Boiotian shield / Kantharos; thunderbolt above, BO-I
W across lower field; all within concave circle. Cf. Head,
Boeotia p. 54. Good Fine, lightly toned. Unique(?) and of considerable interest. ($100)
Ex Colosseum Coin Exchange 74 (2 February 1994), lot 66.The style of this hemidrachm is quite different from the usual thunderbolt hemidrachms. The elongated, somewhat rectangular shield and a kantharos of simpler design with more curved lines point to an unofficial, perhaps clandestine issue.
