BOIOTIA, Thebes. Circa 425-395 BC. AR Stater (11.98 g). Early style. Boiotian shield / Bearded head of Dionysos right, wearing ivy wreath; Q-E across lower field; all within square incuse. Myron Hoard pl. B, 8-10; BMC p. 74, 58, pl. XIII, 8 (same rev. die); G. Hirsch 215 (2 May 2001), lot 214 (same dies). Good VF, even tone, minor die rust, slight porosity, die break beginning on reverse behind the neck. ($1750)

An unusual early rendering of Dionysos, retaining a great deal of individuality in his features. A rare reverse die.
