BOIOTIA, Thebes. Circa 405-395 BC. AR Hemiobol (0.30 g). Half Boiotian shield / No ethnic, grape bunch on vine; all within incuse concave circle. Cf. BMC p. 77, 88 (tetartemorion); cf. SNG Cop. 297 (tetartemorion). VF, toned, surface granularity. Unpublished denomination without ethnic. ($200)
This writer believes (and he is not alone in his belief) that the half shield of this hemiobol, viewed with the curvature above, resembles a facing panther's head! The matter will be easily resolved if a perfectly preserved and struck coin from this die appears. Perhaps another collector can oblige?
