(b) Koroneia. Circa 500-450 BC. AR Obol (0.86 g). As lot 167. SNG Cop. 182. Rare.
(c) Koroneia. Circa 400-350 BC. AR Obol (0.82 g). Similar to lot 172 but with hair in braids and the tongue showing. This reverse die not in consulted references. Rare.
One more unpublished (?) reverse die from this fascinating range of miniature Gorgons from Koroneia. Style and fabric of this one, as well as the lack of an ethnic, suggest an earlier rather than later issue.

Although this coin was bought from a California dealer it is sure to have an old European sale pedigree. The red sealing wax remnants are typical of coins which appeared at auction in the early part of the twentieth century as, at the time, all coins to be photographed were cast from such material.
