BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. Circa 225-171 BC. AR Drachm (4.99 g, 3h). Laureate head of Poseidon right, border of dots / Nike standing left, resting on sceptre and holding wreath; BOIWTW[N] downward on right; to left, grape bunch above monogram. This variety unpublished in the standard references. Good VF, toned, the obverse off centre. ($150)

This coin and the previous lot (141) have the same symbol and monogram but on this one the ethnic is on the right and Nike carries a sceptre instead of a trident. We can therefore assume that the position of the legend and the choice of a trident or a sceptre for what is held by Nike was not important except perhaps to distinguish the work of one engraver from the other.
