BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. Circa 225-171 BC. Lot of two Æ. Both coins: Boiotian shield, club across one half of it, seven-pointed star on the other half / Nike standing left, resting on trident and holding patera. Varieties: (a) Æ 15mm (2.41 g). On reverse, ethnic not visible. Unpublished // (b) Æ 11mm (1.84 g). On reverse, [B]OI
WTW[N] downward on right. Unpublished. Coins Near VF and Good VF, respectively. Two (2) coins in lot. Both possibly unique. ($200)
This issue, with the star on the shield, seems to be imitating the previous type. The second coin is of particularly poor workmanship, suggesting an issue of later date, perhaps unofficial, and at any rate very hurriedly executed.
