(a) is stylistically quite different from most hands encountered in the series; there is some affinity with the horses of lots 276, 277, and 281(b) above. On the other hand, (b) displays signs of a rather unsuccessful attempt to copy earlier, more accomplished renderings, such as lot 291 above.
