SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.29 g, 6h). Dies by Eukleidas (unsigned). Struck circa 405-395 BC. Charioteer driving quadriga left, holding kentron in right hand, reins in both; star above horses' heads; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer with wreath; in exergue, grain ear left / SURAK[O]S[ION] (N retrograde), head of Arethusa left, wearing looped earrings and beaded necklace, hair in ampyx and sphendone ornamented with stars, surrounded by four dolphins. The use of a symbol on the obverse (here a star) is very rare in this series. Missed by both Tudeer and Regling (Warren), Brett (Boston MFA) was the first to notice the star on this issue.
