MACEDON, Akanthos. Circa 470-430 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.14 g, 3h). Attic standard. Lion right, attacking bull kneeling left; in exergue, tunny left / AKA-N-QIO-N in shallow incuse around quadripartite square, the quarters granulated. Cf. Desneux 95 (unlisted dies); AMNG III 21; SNG ANS -; SNG Copenhagen -; Traité III 1057. Good VF, lightly toned. Struck in high relief from an artistic obverse die. ($5000)
