DYNASTS of LYCIA. Amartite. Circa 480 BC. AR Stater (10.63 g, 3h). Crab / "AMIARTITA" in Lycian, crab; all within incuse square. Falghera 57 var. (same obv. die; different magistrate); Babelon, Perses -; SNG Copenhagen Suppl. 397 = Mørkholm & Neumann, Die lykischen Münzlegenden (Göttingen, 1978), M13 (same obv. die); BMC -; SNG von Aulock -; Traité -. Good VF, toned, die break in obverse field. Extremely rare, the second known. ($5000)

Falghera noted that this issue belongs to a group that bridges the anepigraphic and epigraphic period, which would place it circa 480 BC. Additionally, the name "EME" on Falghera 57, which shares the same obverse die as both Amartite coins, may actually be a contracted form of the name of this same dynast.
