KINGS of BAKTRIA. Antialkidas. Circa 115-95 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.73 g, 11h). Attic standard. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right, wearing helmet adorned with bull's horn and ear / BASILEWS NIKHFOROU, ANTIALKIDOU in exergue, Zeus Nikephoros seated facing slightly left on throne with ornate legs, holding Nike in extended right hand and cradling long sceptre against left shoulder, monogram to right; Nike holding wreath in extended right hand and cradling palm in left arm; below, to left, forepart of Indian elephant right with trunk raised. Bopearachchi Série 2A; SNG ANS 1056 var. (placement of legend); MIG Type 270a = Qunduz Hoard 616 (same dies); MACW -. Near EF, minor porosity. Extremely rare. Bopearachchi recorded a total of eight Attic weight tetradrachms of Antialkidas, including just two of this type. ($25,000)

The other two known examples of this variety are the specimen recorded in the Qunduz Hoard and one which has appeared at auction (Spink 165, 8 October 2003, lot 156 = Numismatic Fine Arts XXV, 29 November 1990, lot 237 = Münzen und Medaillen 53, 29 November 1977, lot 162).
