AELIUS. Caesar, 136-138 AD. Æ Sestertius (26.69 g, 6h). Struck 137 AD. L AELIVS CAESAR, bare headed and draped bust right, seen from the front / TR PO[T C]OS II, CONCORD in exergue, S C across field, Concordia seated left on ornate and draped throne, feet on footstool, holding patera in extended right hand and leaning left arm on cornucopiae set on seat. RIC II 1057 var. (Aelius seen from back); Strack 880 var. (same); Banti 6; BMCRE 1918 note var. (same); Cohen 6 var. (same). Good VF, green and brown patina, some surface roughness. Wonderful portrait. Extremely rare obverse variety; only other recorded example comes from M. Paul Vautier and Prof. Maxime Collignon Collections (Naville II, 12-14 June 1922), lot 779. ($2000)
