ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P, laureate head right / COS III, S C in exergue, owl left, head facing; eagle standing right, head left; and peacock standing right, with spread tail feathers. The eagle, king of the birds, was associated with Jupiter, the peacock with Juno, and the owl with Minerva. Together these gods formed the Capitoline Triad and were housed in the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus on the Capitoline Hill.
