From the John Davis Collection.

David de Bourgogne acquired the see of Utrecht through the armed intervention of his father, Philippe le Bon. David enjoyed the perquisites of his seat uninterrupted for some twenty-two years, but after the death of his half brother Charles le Téméraire in 1477, a popular uprising led by Jean de Montfoort expelled him from Utrecht. David organized a counter-revolt, and regained the city in 1482. The province was devastated by the revolt and the subsequent reprisals by the restored prelate. His dated coinage from the mint of Deventer all occurs before the outbreak of the revolt.
