In 1839 the last series of Russian copper coins of full intrinsic value was authorized. The first coins apparently were not struck until 1840, but pieces dated 1839 were later struck fom re-cut 1840 dies. Coins were struck at the Ekatrinburg, Suzul and St. Petersburg mints thorugh 1848, with a limited production for only one year at the Izhora branch of the St. Petersburg mint.
