Elias 277; Duplessy 444; Poey d'Avant 3178. Superb EF. Extremely rare. A masterpiece of medieval die engraving. ($15,000)
The angelot, valued as two-thirds of the salut, was struck in miniscule quantities; surviving mint records indicate less than a thousand were struck in any one year at the six mints producing them. The skilled engraver of these dies created a miniature masterpiece using simple but well-balanced design elements.
