JULIUS CAESAR. April-May 44 BC. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.28 g). Posthumous issue. P. Sepullius Macer, moneyer. Temple dedicated to the Clemency of Caesar / Horseman (desultor) riding right with two horses, whip in right hand; wreath and palm behind. Crawford 480/21; CRI 110; Sydenham 1076; RSC 44. Fine, toned, porous. Rare.

This coin is actually one of the first issues of Mark Antony, struck shortly after Caesar's assassination. The horseman is believed to be a reference to the Parilian Games, celebrated on 21 April. Both the games and the temple (never constructed) celebrated Caesar's victories and honor.
