KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.07 g, 1h). Ake mint. Dated CY 10 (306/5 BC). Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; – –|O (date) in left field. Price 3301 (same obv. die as plate coin). VF, struck with worn obverse die, small nick in field on reverse.
The new civic year dating in Ake is relative to the arrival of Antigonos I Monophthalmos in Phoenicia (CY 1 = 315/4 BC; cf. Price pp. 406-7).
