SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator. 312-281 BC. AR Obol (0.56 g). Susa(?) mint. Struck circa 305/4-295 BC. Head of hero (Alexander or Seleukos?) right, wearing helmet covered with panther skin and adorned with the ear and horns of a bull / Nike standing right, erecting trophy; H in field between Nike and trophy, [AX off flan?]. Unpublished. VF, toned, light porosity.
From the Robert A. Weimer Collection.
The style of this example is consistent with obols of Susa, and H is a control used there in conjunction with AX. However, the H is always placed to the lower right and AX in the central position when used at Susa, where here the H is definitely in the center.
