ISLANDS off IONIA, Chios. Autonomous issue. 2nd-mid-3rd century AD. Æ 3 Assaria (30mm, 9.87 g, 6h). Sphinx crouching right, left forepaw raised; at feet, prow of galley right / Chian amphora, at base, poppy on either side ; all within wreath. SNG Copenhagen 1660 var. (grain ears at base of amphora); SNG von Aulock -; SNG Hunterian 1396 var. (sphinx left; same rev. die). Good VF, dark green and brown surfaces, light overall porosity.
