Hadrian. AD 117-138. AR Cistophorus (10.76 g, 12h). Uncertain mint. Struck after AD 128. HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, laureate bust right, slight drapery over left shoulder / Distyle temple set on three-tiered podium; within, statue of Athena holding patera and shield set on ground, spear to right; COS III across field. Cf. RIC II 520 (for rev. type); cf. Metcalf, Cistophori, type 116 (for rev. type); cf. RSC 300 (for rev. type). VF. Overstruck on a cistophorus of Augustus, Sutherland Group VIg. Unpublished obverse type with very rare reverse type.
