Michael VII, Ducas. 1071-1078. Æ Follis (8.99 g, 6h). Constantinople (?) mint. Facing bust of Christ, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels; nimbus with six-rayed star in upper quarters, IC XC in lower / Crowned facing bust, wearing short beard and loros, holding labarum and globus cruciger; crown with pendilia. DOC III 14d = BMC 29; SB 1879. VF, dark brown patina with minor traces of red. Extremely rare.
Only two specimens of this type were known to Grierson (both in the British Museum), and only one other example has appeared at auction (Rauch 73, 17 May, 2004, lot 1054; misattributed)
