John III, Ducas-Vatatzes. Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. AV Hyperpyron (4.16 g, 6h). Magnesia mint. Struck circa 1227-1232. Christ enthroned facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels / Half-length facing busts of John, wearing loros and holding akakia, and the Theotokos, raising hand in blessing, holding patriarchal cross between them. DOC IV 1a; SB 2072. VF, flan crack, lightly toned.
