TUDOR. Henry VIII. 1509-1547. AR Testoon (7.60 g, 10h). Third coinage. Tower mint; mm: lis. Struck circa 1544-1547. Crowned facing bust; VIII in legend, annulet-in-pellet at end of legend / Crowned rose; crowned h R flanking, annulet-in-pellet at end of legend. Jacob O7/R11 and p. 284, 7 (this coin); Whitton A(2); North 1841; SCBC 2364. VF, toned, light marks under tone, usual soft strike. Struck on a full round flan.

In his study of Henry’s testoons, Jacob noted that the dies used for this coin were altered by the addition of the pellet-in-annulet at the end of the legends. While other dies were made with this added mark, these dies are the only ones known to have been altered from the earlier emission without the mark.
