[Jewelry and Ornaments]
GREEK. Gold bar fragment. Length 55mm, weight 55.96 g. Difficult to determine what this might have been originally, a torque, or perhaps a handle to a large vessel, but it is a solid, thick fragment of ancient gold, slightly flaring at one end, which was later used as a source of raw gold. Small chunks were being roughly hacked off of one end, perhaps for re-use in jewelry. Good condition, encrusted.
