[Jewelry and Ornaments] ROMAN. Gilt silver fibula. Circa 2nd century AD. Length 70mm. Bronze cloak pin of the P-shape type, with zoomorphic details. A sharply curved bow in the form of a “sea-horse”, head and mane forming the bow, and a long tail ending in a knob. The cross arm is covered with a flat plate, decorated with a punched spiral motif, and three terminal knobs. The horse’s eyes are inlaid enamel, and its ears are pierced, once carrying ornaments. Remains of gilding on the upper surfaces. Intact and functional. A rarity for the metal and the animate decoration.
