ROMAN. Italy. Pottery oil lamp. Circa 1st century AD. Diameter from nozzle to nozzle 24cm. Mold-formed trilychnos with central motif of dancing Eros sprinkling incense on a garlanded altar, shoulder with high relief design of three winged Victories adorned with olive branches. Three vent/fill holes on discus, triple nozzles, arched handle. Buff colored clay, top half with applied dark brown slip. Choice condition, one nozzle professionally restored, a few minor stress cracks. A magnificent early Roman banquet lamp, worthy of the finest collection of antiquities.
