[Oil lamps] ROMAN. Italy. Pottery oil lamp. Circa 1st century AD. Length 12cm. Mold-formed with central motif of a crocodile sniffing a flower, with two ducks above, all in concentric frame. Fill hole on discus, tiny vent hole on nozzle, spatulate spout with volutes, no handle. Cream colored clay with dark brown and red slip. Choice condition, slip worn. Wonderful Nilotic scene.
