[Arms and armor]
IRAN. Qajar Dynasty. Iron shield. 19th century. Diameter 60cm. A round iron shield consisting of two iron plates riveted together, with possibly a leather buffer between them. Outer plate is decorated with four raised bosses around a central umbo, the whole surface painted with roundels and panels containing thick enamel floral patterns. Four loops on the back for leather straps, now missing. Good condition, the enamel painting has darkened considerably, probably due to old lacquer application, making it difficult to determine the original colors. Most of the enamel has flaked off the umbo and the roundels.
