Greene, Frederick Davis. Armenian Massacres, or The Sword of Mohammed. (New York, 1896). "Containing a Complete and Thrilling account of the Terrible Atrocities and Wholesale Murders Committed in Armenia by Mohammedan Fanatics". [xvi], 512 pages with over 100 engraved and photographic illustrations. A lurid account of the persecution of the Armenians in Turkey in 1894-95 fostered by the insane sultan Abdul Hamid. Pictorial green cloth cover and spine, of a Turk standing over pleading Armenian women and another over a dead man, marbled page edges, floral end papers. Fair condition, covers worn and faded. At least two pages removed from the front of the book- the end of the introduction and the first page of the text. The text page featured facsimile signatures of contemporary notables endorsing the book, and was probably removed for nefarious purposes. Some references for this book mention a fold-out map, which appears to be missing. ($50)
