HANOVER. Princess Anne. Princess Royal and Princess of Orange, 1709-1759. AR Medal (40mm, 23.18 g, 12h). J.G. Holtzhey, engraver. The Death of Anne, Princess of Orange, dated 1759. Veiled and draped bust left; halo of stars above / Sarcophagus decorated with a shield; below, symbols of Art and Science. Hawkins II p. 692, 417; Eimer 663. Anne was the eldest daughter of king George II of England, and wife of Prince William IV of Orange-Nassau. She died at only 49 years of age, in 1759, a year before her father, and was renowned for her promotion of the arts and sciences (hence their personifications are displayed on this commemorative medal).
