THRACE, Bizya. Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ 26mm (9.30 g). Laureate and draped bust right / BIZU-HNWN, a banquet scene; symposiast reclining on klinè to left, woman seated half-right at his feet, youth standing to left; forepart of horse to right. Youroukova 8 var. (spacing of ethnic); SNG Copenhagen -. Fine, brown patina.

From the Garth R. Drewry Collection.

Possibly a local depiction of a myth involving the Bizyan king Tereus. Tereus raped his wife's sister, Philomela, and then cut her tongue out to prevent her from telling her sister. But alas she told her sister anyway (perhaps she knew how to write or drew a diagram), and the sisters plotted their revenge by killing the king's son (presumably by a different wife) and cooking him for dinner. The coin type allegorically depicts the moment when Tereus is served his son's corpse by his wife.
