CILICIA, Tarsos. Pharnabazos. Persian military commander, circa 380-377 BC. AR Stater (20mm, 10.50 g). Three-quarter facing head of Herakles, head turned slightly right, wearing lion's skin / Helmeted head of warrior left. SNG Levante 75 (this coin); SNG France -; SNG von Aulock -. VF, toned, obverse die rust, rough surfaces. Very rare.
From the David Herman Collection; Ex Classical Numismatic Group 66 (19 May 2004), lot 605; Eduardo Levante Collection, 75.
Unlike the other issues of Pharnabazos which feature a bearded head of Ares, this coin clearly shows a clean-shaven, young male head.
