INDIA, Colonial. British India. Bengal Presidency. 1651-1835. AV Mohur (10.86 g, 3h). Muhammadabad Banaras mint. Couplet in five lines across field; fish right (mintmark) in left field; AH date in lower right field / “Struck Muhammad Banaras year 17/29 of reign associated woth prosperity” in Arabic; lotus in central field . The existence of a mohur dated AH 1201 with the double RY 17/29 is an exception to the rule enunciated by Pridemore that such multiple dating occurred only on silver rupees. The die rust and scratches about the devices on the reverse of our coin suggests an old reverse die (whether that used for the known double dated mohur, or a contemporary rupee) was used to strike this heretofore unrecorded mohur.
