BRUTTIUM, Kroton. Circa 530-500 BC. AR Nomos (28mm, 7.89 g, 12h). Spread incuse type. Tripod, legs terminating in lion's feet; to right, heron standing left / Incuse tripod. SNG ANS -; cf. HN Italy 2081; CNG 72, 140. VF, minor die break on obverse. Very rare.
This variety with the heron standing to the side of the tripod, and not appearing on the reverse, is common in the later series, but unrecorded for the early spread incuse issues
