CYRRHESTICA, Bambyke–Manbog. Abyaty. Circa 370s/340s BC. AR Shekel – Didrachm (22mm, 7.99 g, 6h). Draped bust of female facing, wearing pearl necklace; [Aramaic hdd w ’th (Hadad and Ateh) and circle to left] / Persian satrap and driver, who holds reins in both hands, in quadriga of mules right; Aramaic ’byty (Abyaty) above; countermark on horse: Aramaic l in conforming incuse. Andrade Series 1, Issue 1, 9 (O3/R6) = Mildenberg, Note 3 (this coin, illustrated in both); HGC 9, 1344. Lightly toned, area of rough find patina, surface roughness, a couple of light scratches on obverse. VF. Very rare, one of only ten examples in Andrade, and no additional examples in CoinArchives. |
