Bareheaded, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / River-god Tonzus reclining left, holding reed and resting elbow on urn from which water flows. Jurukova, Hadrianopolis 50 var. (V35/R–, unpublished rev. die); RPC IV.1 10606 var. (same); Varbanov 3203 var. (same). Dark green patina, minor deposits, a few cleaning scratches. Good VF. Rare variety. All references describe the river-god holding a cornucopia and reed together, this coin only has a reed. |
