Silver, glass beads and stamped clear glass medallion. Byzantine Empire. 7th-11th centuries CE. (5.5 cm) A large, silver amulet with a simple loop at the top for suspension. The central bezel on the obverse holds (detached) a stamped monogram that has been severely worn. This is surrounded by three small white beads, set in raised bezels. In two rows, surrounding the bezel, twisted wire work of U patterns in the central surrounding ring. The outer ring is made of twisted wire rings. All of that is bound by a dashed border and the reverse is attached with bent tangs. The reverse is decorated with an embossed floral pattern, surrounded by a fancy design of slanted sections. All of that is surrounded by a dashed border. Some damage on reverse. Small surface crack. Website shipping rates do not apply. |
