Bronze bull-head oil lamp. Byzantine. Early Christian. 3rd-7th centuries CE. (14.3 cm) An oil lamp with a central, pseudo volute body that extends into a tapered neck and single nozzle with tucked lip. On top, a lid with a bull’s head working as a handle. Behind, a large cross as an extended handle with loop in lower part. The body tapers to a raised foot, a central mount in the center of the lamp for mounting on a stand. Green-brown patina over the whole lamp, minor deposits. Very attractive. Website shipping rates do not apply. |
