Bronze Eagle Finial. Roman. 1st-3rd centuries CE. . (6.8 cm) A bronze eagle finial to hold reins on a chariot. At top, a head of an eagle is shown with fine details. The body descends cylindrically to flat foot. Holes for mounting on the back and on the near top of the head. Extending before the lower part of the front of the finial, the head of a swan to form a hook. Some damage present on swan. A couple of smaller holes present atop the eagle’s head and a second hole at the base. Green-brown patina. Website shipping rates do not apply. |
