POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (165 mm tall x 70 mm wide). A tall Apulian Epichysis with wide flat foot supporting a semi-oval formed body that abruptly forms a near flat shoulder. From the shoulder, a spout with small molded grotesque heads towards back on either side and elongated nozzle present. A long, tall handle extends from the back of the spout upwards, to loop around and terminate at the edge of the back of the shoulder. A large vine pattern is loosely etched into the body of the piece. On the shoulder, a row of vertical lines adorns the area. Intact and in good condition. This piece has almost completely intact glazing. A very nice example that would make a great display piece. |
