POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (75 mm wide x 180 mm tall). A tall, footed Oinocoe with a single vaulted handle extending from the back of the trefoil spout to the back of the shoulder. The flat rounded foot extends up to a squat stem supporting the long, body that tapers to meet the stem and abruptly forms a shoulder to the other end. A thin extended neck supports the trefoil spout. The handle extends then in the back of the piece, from the lip to the shoulder. Verticla lines are etched into the shoulder, bordering a sideways Omega shaped U with two dots between them. Wonderful glaze with very minor loss. Handle reattached. An impressive piece. |
