THRACE, Coela. Trebonianus Gallus. AD 251-253. Æ (26mm, 9.02 g, 12h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Aeneas advancing right, carrying Anchises on his shoulder, and leading Ascanius by the hand. RPC IX 165.2 (this coin); Varbanov 2943. Dark green patina. In NGC encapsulation 6556397-012, graded VF, Strike: 5/5, Surface: 3/5. Extremely rare, only two known to RPC.

The reverse depicts a scene recounted by Virgil in the Aeneid when the Greeks attacked and set fire to Troy. Here we see Aeneas fleeing, carrying his aged father Anchises on his shoulder, leading his son Ascanius by the hand to safety.
