POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE.Electronic Auction 568 Antiquities Estimate: $ 750 |
POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (90 mm wide x 160 mm tall). An Apulian epichysis with a trefoil spout and a tall single handle extending from the lip to the shoulder of the pitcher. A trumpeted foot supports an oval body that abruptly folds to form a shoulder at its midpoint. A wide neck extends then into a trefoil spout. From the back, the handle extends up to then reattach at the shoulder of the vessel. Three registers of decoration are present: at the mid-section a running wave pattern, above, v-chevrons facing left and, on the shoulder, leaves laying vertically. Minor loss of glaze at the lip, otherwise in good condition. A very pleasant piece overall. Intact. |
